IRON BUTT POWER - Chaim Mehnie

If you ever have a doubt whether you should saddle up or not, hope that you have an Iron Butt maniac in your sphere of riders. I am so blessed. Right up the block from me in Grand Marais, MN lives such a man. Hot, cold, wet or dry this guy just rides. He typifies the can-do attitude. Many talk a good game where the Iron Butt riders have that simple black and white view of the rode - ride now, ride hard, lead follow or get out of the way. My riding buddy rode in rain, several snow storms (side car) and sub-zero temps in Canada. Now we're not talking shredded leather and goggles and a whim here. He pretty much typifies the pro LD rider. He is organized. He has the top of the line riding suit combined with heated linings. He always wears the best rpotective gear. He rides two bikes, either his Honda Goldwing with side-car or his BMW. Both bikes are self sufficient (tools, repair items, GPS etc). He just gets on and rides. Some of the rides he partcipates in Iron Buttdom include challenges that prove they are the toughest riders. One rally included a 1000 mile stint in 24 hrs. - the catch, it was all on gravel. WTF?? Throw in rain?
Visit the Iron Butt riders web site. You can get instructions on certifying your own 1000 mile / 24 hour ride. Plus there is access to the fine riders who participate in their pursuit of long distance riding. My buddy speaks of his close friendships and associations built by riding with his friends. You meet the nicest people on motorcycles.
Up here in the north we're makin ice, walleyes are biting, and snow machines are readied for good snow.
Daytona bike week teases us, close enough to touch but still weeks away. Our bikes are tucked away waiting for the call to wake up and roar once more. Sturgis reservations have been secured. Full Throttle Saloon's reality show brings back fond memories. Leather, hot chicks, loud pipes and beer. The Knuckle and the open fights what a gas! That hail storm was a definate downer. Again, being surrounded with fun loving, free bikers was the best.
Until next time motorfam...
